[050] MuepEtmo – Pure Butter

This MuepEtmo album can be listened as a sequel of “I’m a broken man”, also released by Antena.art.br. It follows the way of piano improvisation turning into noise/ambient, however, if in “I’m a broken man” the mood of chanson and cabaret manifests, in “Pure Butter” Satie speaks louder, with the music moving from noise/ambient and entering little by little, more and more, inside the piano.

[048] Adamante

Adamante is a trio from Recife, conceived from structures created on the piano by Renê Freire, who invited Henrique Correia and Vinícius Farias to add layers with their electric guitars. A perfect recording, too intimate for post-rock and too noisy for chamber music.

They say: “The songs of ‘Exercícios sobre mundanidade’ (‘exercises about mundanity’) come from solo piano pieces created by Renê Freire, which were used as the basis for the arrangements and noisy interventions played by Henrique Correia and Vinícius Farias. The arrangement process was based on that which they thought could highlight the feelings of banality, worldliness and desolation, contrasting the piano lines, which carried a more purposeful and emotional character. They sought to transform all that feeling into a mere exercise about the banal and the mundane, with nothing sacred or on pedestals. Like a solstice being celebrated in the simple act of naked swimming, with the visceral contact with water like epiphany in itself.”

[047] Marco Scarassatti – Novelo Elétrico 6

Novelo Elétrico (“Electric Yarnball”) is thought as a poetic construction of sound spaces, having as its matrix the improvising with invented musical instruments, objects between music and visual arts. It starts from the concept of yarnball, matted threads that precedes textile or it is posterior to it, when the leftovers are organized. In principle, it is not the object of the thread, its destiny from the point of view of work. But it is constituted as a form, almost object, which depends on the way in which it is skeined. It ascends to status of object-toy by use of children and felines.

“My search is in the poetic-political construction of sound spaces, be it miniaturized, ambient, territorial, performative or simulated. Somehow I was always interested in what, inside Music, was not music; which was on the other side of the border and forced me to cross it. The relationship with the physical space, with the plastic form, with the concept; I am interested in the undesired sounds in the production of the desired sounds, the instant of time that anticipates the music, signing the agreement of separation between ordinary and extraordinary. Sound as generator of form and form as generator of sound.”

[046] Guido Flichman – Hypnagogia

Guido Flichman is a guy that almost everyone from the scene of noise or strange music knows. After recording works under his solo project Eye, being half of the drone-electronic duo Termotank, playing in a lot of groups like Cine Shampoo, Programa or FAANTAASMAA, and being editor of the site Latinoise, here is his new album “Hypnagogia”, signed with his real name, a collection of three beautiful electronic landscapes.

[045] Crise Vitória + Animal Cracker – split

This is the split by the noise projects from Brazil and Uruguay, Crise Vitória and Animal Cracker. Crise Vitória (Victory Crisis) is a sound entity that manifests itself through Guilherme Darisbo. Composed mainly by amplified silence at full volume, it allows the appearance of evil frequencies. Animal Cracker is the noise music project by artist Matias Picón. In these two tracks, Picón uses mainly a Macovesky echo chamber, with effects and editions. All these tracks were recorded in São Paulo, in a lot of strange locations, like The Rabbit home in Bethlem or Potato’s Square.

[044] Emiliano Hernandez-Santana – Temporada en Les Nepedipedes

Emiliano Hernández-Santana is a Venezuelan activist and sound artist. In 2002 he founded Microbio Recs, perhaps the first Latin American netlabel. In 2008, we shared the same stage in Buenos Aires. Since then, we’ve talked about releasing his work through Antena, and here it is. “Season in Les Nepedipedes” is a beautiful album with five tracks in which all aspects of EHS’ work – drones, noise-ambient, soundscapes – can be found, gradually revealing layers of sound.

[043] MuepEtmo – I’M A BROKEN MAN

The new MuepEtmo album is a disturbing hybrid, starting from piano improvisations and moving more and more into noise/ambient. The noises are introduced between moods of chanson, blues and cabaret, allowing even the amazing title track, a stripped and minimal song by a sort of cyberpunk Screamin ‘Jay Hawkins, created from the insistent repetition of the chorus.

[042] Albertu Silva + Henrique Vaz + Hugo Medeiros + Marcelo Campello – Black Rhino

Elegy for PVC bassoons with double reeds made of drinking straw, percussive idiophones (stair handrails and some skins) and reverberant space. Original soundtrack of the short film “Acorda”, by Chico Ludermir, for Occupy Estelita movement.

This work is based on a research by doctoral work about accessibility, sustainability and diversity.
